Million Second Quiz debuts app

NBC has launched an app that allows players to compete for a place on its new reality gameshow The Million Second Quiz.

The show, which will be produced by All3Media America, Universal Television and Studio Lambert, sees contestants live and compete inside a giant hourglass in central Manhattan for 12 days straight.

The app allows users to play along with the show in real time, answering questions about pop culture, history and general knowledge to gain bonus points. Those with sufficient points could then gain a place on the New York-based gameshow.

The show, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, is due to start on September 9 and takes place over one million seconds – 12 days – with contestants competing in quiz bouts around the clock.

The app is available for free on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, with an Android version coming soon. Players can also interact via the show’s Facebook page and NBC’s website.

All3 America was set up at the end of last year, replacing Studio Lambert USA, with Stephen Lambert becoming chairman and Eli Holzman president. The pair will exec produce The Million Second Quiz along with David Hurwitz and Seacrest.
