Shane Mitchell, previously chairman at digital media sales business HS3 Media, joined in March and will lead the new unit from July 1 as chief digital officer, reporting to CEO Shaun Seow.

The new division will be one of six in MediaCorp’s organisational structure, aimed at accelerating its digital transformation.

MediaCorp has recently invested in several digital firms, including Indonesia’s Kapanlagi Network. MediaCorp has also created a digital-first newsroom while new verticals are being added to the revamped version of its OTT service Toggle.

“The Digital Group will help drive the next generation of MediaCorp content and services, introducing new and compelling ways to tell stories, and connect consumers and marketers,” said Mitchell.

“We are very open to collaboration and are looking at a range of strategic partnerships with key digital players.”

In related news, MediaCorp has entered a partnership with Australian pubcaster ABC to share and coproduce content via their international platforms.

The agreement will see both companies explore opportunities for future programme and content exchange, as well as coproduction opportunities on the various media outlets they own.

Channel NewsAsia, an English-language Asian TV news channel, was established by MediaCorp in 1999 and can be viewed in 26 territories across Asia.

Meanwhile, ABC International delivers digital and social media brand Australia Plus, including AustraliaPlus.cn, as well as the 24/7 subscription television service Australia Plus TV, which is available in 40 countries across Asia-Pacific.
