US cablenet Lifetime has cancelled Devious Maids, Marc Cherry’s follow-up to Desperate Housewives, after four seasons.

The show, based on the Mexican telenovela Ellas Son la Alegría del Hogar, stars Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria as one of four women who have ambitions and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Lifetime’s decision to axe the show comes two weeks after the series ended its fourth run.

Maids hailed from ABC Studios and is sold by Disney Media Distribution.
