Grandpas Over Flowers was adapted as Better Late Than Never for NBC

South Korean reality format Grandpas Over Flowers, which was remade as Better Late Than Never for NBC in the US, is being adapted in Europe for the first time.

The deal, brokered by LA- and London-based format company Small World IFT, will see the show air in Italy in 2017 on Rai Due, with Endemol Shine Italy producing.

The show was created by Korean giant CJ E&M for its tvN network and features four veteran stars and their porter as they hit the road on a fish-out-of-water backpacking adventure of a lifetime.

NBC recently ordered a second season of its version in the US, which was a ratings success, airing at 22.00.

Tim Crescenti, president of Small World IFT, said: “We have created a new genre of unscripted comedy combining humour, entertainment and adventure, as viewers get to follow these living legends on a journey of a lifetime that sees them learning as much about themselves as they do about new cultures.”

Orsetta Violante Balsamo, head of formats acquisitions and international at Endemol Shine Italy, added: “We’ve been tracking Better Late Than Never since it was launched as Grandpas Over Flowers in Korea and I trust the time is ripe for it to blossom in Italy.”
