Kitty gets China distribution deal

Kitty is Not a Cat has already been picked up by 7flix

Australian studio BES Animation has signed a digital distribution deal with China’s UniCreative Internet Company for its animated property Kitty is Not a Cat.

Under the multi-year digital platform pact, UniCreative will shop the series across all main digital services in mainland China, including leading VoD platforms Tencent Video, Baidu’s iQiyi and Alibaba’s Youku Tudou. Additionally, it will explore deals with IPTV, cable TV, digital TV, OTT and mobile platforms.

Kitty is Not a Cat follows a group of hard-partying stray cats that must take care of a small girl after she is left on their doorstep.

Earlier this month, the show was picked up by 7flix, the free-to-air digital channel owned by Seven Network in Australia, while BES appointed online distributor ValleyArm Digital to oversee the launch of the series on YouTube in July.

“Expanding our digital footprint in China has always been a key pillar in our regional expansion strategy for Kitty is Not a Cat,” said Bruce Kane, founder and director of BES Animation. “We look forward to taking the show into the hearts and homes of young fans in China.”
