Int’l nets show Fortitude

Broadcasters including Canal+ in France and TV2 in Denmark have pre-bought forthcoming Sky Atlantic drama series Fortitude ahead of next month’s Mipcom.

Fortitude (12×60’) is an original commission by UK satcaster BSkyB and is being produced by Tiger Aspect Productions-owned prodco Fifty Fathoms.

Distributor Sky Vision has sold the series around the world to SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, Canada’s Super Channel, NRK Norway, RUV Iceland, DBS Israel and OTE in Greece.

US network Pivot replaced Starz as the series’ coproduction partner in the US back in April. Warner Bros Home Entertainment and PBS Distribution have picked up home entertainment rights.

The series stars Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil: Retribution) and is set in an Arctic landscape where a murder rocks a tight-knit community and threatens the future of the town. It will premiere in the UK and US in early 2015.

In related news, US premium cablenet HBO has picked up a Sky Atlantic feature doc from directing veteran Nick Broomfield.

Tales of the Grim Sleeper has just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and focuses on LA serial killer Lonie Franklin Jr and explores why it took police so long to catch him after 20 years of murders.

The US rights have now been picked up by HBO Documentary Films. The deal was negotiated by Josh Braun of Submarine on behalf of Sky, with Nancy Abraham of HBO Documentary Films.
