Heap to step down at ABC Oz

The head of distribution for entertainment and specialist content at ABC in Australia is leaving after four years with the broadcaster.

Rebecca Heap

Rebecca Heap joined ABC Television as head of strategy and digital products in 2014, becoming head of programming and digital in 2016.

Her responsibilities included working across the ABC, ABC Kids, ABC Me and ABC Comedy channels, in addition to ABC iview and a suite of children’s digital products. Heap was appointed to her current role in February and will leave in June.

David Anderson, the ABC’s director of entertainment and specialist, said Heap had made a “significant contribution” to the broadcaster’s operations, adding that her “leadership across digital and programming has been invaluable.”

“Bec has championed ABC iview, which remains the leading broadcast VoD service in Australia, and under her leadership the team has grown monthly programme plays from 20 million in 2014 to almost 60 million.”

Heap, whose next move is not yet known, said: “It has been an incredible privilege to be part of the national broadcaster and I would like to thank David Anderson and my talented and passionate colleagues for the amazing opportunity to manage ABC’s programming and digital products.”
