HBO puts brakes on Project Greenlight

Project Greenlight could yet continue elsewhere

Project Greenlight could yet continue elsewhere

US pay TV broadcaster HBO has cancelled its revived version of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Project Greenlight.

The movie challenge series, which first aired from 2001 to 2003 on HBO, follows the search for a first-time director and chronicles the behind-the-scenes process of turning a script into a feature film.

A fourth season aired on HBO last year but the pay net has now said it will not be moving forward with a fifth. Damon is reportedly testing interest with other outlets, including streamers.

The first season followed the making of drama film Stolen Summer. In 2003, the second run followed The Battle of Shaker Heights, while the third outing, which aired on NBC-owned Bravo in 2005, chronicled the making of monster movie Feast.

The revamped show was produced by US-based Adaptive Studios in association with Pearl Street Films and Miramax. Exec producers include Affleck, Damon, Marc Joubert, TJ Barrack, Perrin Chiles, Marshall Lewy and Zanne Devine.
