HBO lights up marijuana comedy

US premium cablenet HBO is taking an online comedy about the life of a marijuana dealer in New York to linear television with a six-part series.

High Maintenance debuted on Vimeo three years ago

High Maintenance was created and written by married duo Katja Blichfeld (30 Rock) and Ben Sinclair (Sisters, Big C), who will executive produce the new episodes alongside Russell Gregory.

The show, which debuted on Vimeo three years ago and has been dubbed “the greatest show not on television” by the service, stars Sinclair as a friendly pot dealer who interacts with an eccentric group of characters.

The TV version is being produced by Blichfeld and Sinclair’s Janky Clown Productions indie, while HBO will also make the previous 19 online episodes available via its linear channels, as well as its HBO Now and HBO Go services.
