HBO Europe lands Lionsgate package

NATPE: HBO Europe has agreed a far-reaching deal with Lionsgate for programming for its networks in Central and Eastern Europe, the Nordics and Spain.

Starz dramas including The White Queen are included in the pact

The package includes original dramas from Lionsgate-owned US cablecaster Starz such as The White Princess, which debuted in the US in April, The White Queen and Graves.

The deal extends HBO Europe’s existing arrangement with Lionsgate, which provides access to shows including Casual and American Lion.

Ragnhild Thorbech, senior VP of programming and acquisitions at HBO Europe, said the deal would provide subscribers “with a new batch of wide-ranging premium programming.”

Lionsgate’s catalogue for Natpe Budapest, which started yesterday, includes formats such as gameshow Candy Crush as well as drama 10 Days in the Valley (10×60′) and a TV version of the movie Dirty Dancing.

In related news, Breakthrough Entertainment has struck a deal with HBO Europe that will bring the first installment of the L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables’ trilogy into homes across fourteen countries in Central Europe through HBO’s premium pay television service.
