Germany, Japan welcome Women at War

Broadcasters in Japan, Germany and Austria have picked up a documentary about the role of women during the First World War from France’s Lagardère Entertainment Rights.

Women at War (1×52’, 1×90’), which aired on France 3 this year, traces the journeys of a dozen women during the conflict. It was produced by French prodco Program33 and was directed by Hugues Nancy and Fabien Béziat.

Lagardère has finalised sales to Japanese pubcaster NHK, Servus TV in Germany and Austria, Radio Canada and Belgium’s RTBF.

US SVoD service Alliant Content is also taking the doc along with China’s Da Neng Culture Media Co, Canal Encuentro in Argentina, Prava i Prevodi in the Balkans and KBS in South Korea.

It has also been sold to RTSI for Italian-speaking Switzerland, TV5 Québec, Finnish public broadcaster YLE, and RTS in French- speaking Switzerland. Talks are under way for a deal in Italy.

A second episode, to focus on the role of women during the Second World War, is currently in development and due to be delivered in May.
