The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe

Public broadcaster France 5 has commissioned a second season of docudrama The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe from Pernel Media.

The first 4×60’ season of the show achieved strong domestic ratings and the new second season order is for 6×60’ episodes.

Distributed by France Télévisions Distribution, the latest instalment of The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe was commissioned by Caroline Behar, head of documentaries, and Thierry Mino, deputy head of documentaries, acquisitions and international coproductions at France 5. Executive producer is Samuel Kissous for Paris-based Pernel.

Featuring more drama reconstruction, one of the stories it will focus on is the struggles between Catholic and Protestant faiths and the intertwined relationships of rival and related European houses during the 1500s.

The first season of the show scored initial international sales to Foxtel, Viasat World, TV5 and Curiosity Stream and a UK version is in the works for History.
