Former C4 exec takes Retort role

FremantleMedia UK scripted comedy label Retort has appointed a former Channel 4 deputy commissioner as its head of development.

Nana Hughes joins The IT Crowd producer from ITV Studios-owned Big Talk Productions, where she was development producer for just under a year.

Hughes began her comedy entertainment career working on C4 shows including V Graham Norton, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Friday Night Project, before becoming the UK broadcaster’s deputy commissioning editor in comedy and entertainment. She then went to develop comedy at the BBC in-house before joining ITV Studios’ comedy department.

Retort formed in 2012 when TalkbackThames was split into four production arms by FremantleMedia UK. Among its credits are Count Arthur Strong (BBC), The IT Crowd Special (C4) and the revival of classic comedy Birds of a Feather (ITV).
