eOne’s Cardinal arrives in France

Cardinal has been renewed for second and third seasons

Canal+ in France has become the latest broadcaster to pick up Canadian thriller Cardinal.

The show is produced by Sienna Films and Entertainment One (eOne) in association with Bell Media’s CTV and stars Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse.

It is adapted from Giles Blunt’s novel Forty Words for Sorrow and begins with the discovery of a 13-year-old’s body in the shaft-head of an abandoned mine.

CTV has already greenlit second and third seasons of the show for 2017/18, marking the first time the Canuck broadcaster has ordered two consecutive seasons of a drama.

Super Écran bought the series for French-language Canadian broadcast while eOne handles international rights. The French deal was brokered by Toby Melling, VP of sales at eOne Television International.
