CNN orders Clinton feature

CNN Films has commissioned a feature-length documentary about Hilary Clinton from Oscar-winning director and producer Charles Ferguson.

The doc, currently in pre-production, will take a comprehensive look at Clinton’s professional and personal life and is expected to premiere in 2014, with a theatrical run preceding an airing on CNN.

Ferguson, founder and president of Representational Films, is known for Inside Job, a documentary on the American banking crisis that won the Best Documentary Film Oscar in 2011. Prior to that he produced No End in Sight: The American Occupation of Iraq, which won a clutch of awards in 2007.

Clinton is one of the early favourites for the 2016 US presidential race and is already the subject of a four-part miniseries starring Diane Lane, which NBC announced this week.

CNN Films is the feature-doc arm of the US newscaster.

Amy Entelis, senior VP of talent and content development for CNN Worldwide, and Vinnie Malhotra, senior VP of development and acquisitions for CNN Worldwide, oversee its acquisition strategy. Malhotra also manages the day-to-day operation of CNN Films, and works with filmmakers to develop projects.
