Canada, Belgium set up digital fund

Media funds in Canada and Belgium have linked to create a C$600,000 (US$525,000) pot of cash to encourage producers from the two countries to develop interactive digital projects together.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Wallimage, the public financing arm of the audiovisual sector in Belgium’s Wallonia region, have each stumped up half of the total to support the co-development and coproduction of digital shows.

The Canada-Wallimage Digital Media Incentive for Multiplatform Projects is now open for applications.

Valerie Creighton, president and CEO at CMF, said the fund was being launched to help “deliver new compelling content from talented producers in both countries.”

Philippe Reynaert, CEO of Wallimage, added that the incentive would “build bridges between producers and service providers from our region and their Canadian counterparts.”

Completed applications must be received before February 2 and will be evaluated by a committee formed by the two media funds. Further details are available here.
