Boom! bags 20th Century agreement

Comic book publisher Boom! Studios is making a foray into television after agreeing a first-look deal with US production outfit 20th Century Fox TV.

The agreement will see the companies work on broadcast and cable projects and allow 20th Century producers to gain access to Boom!’s imprints and its subsidiaries, including KaBoom! and Boom!Box.

LA-based Boom! plans to hire a development exec to focus on TV projects, while the firm’s founder and CEO Ross Richie will serve as exec producer on any resulting TV series, along with the company’s president of development Stephen Christy.

Boom! and 20th Century have previously worked together on drama pilot Unthinkable, which was based on a comic by Mark Sable and Julian Totino. The two firms also have a first-look feature film development deal.

Comics have become an increasingly regular source of inspiration for recent TV series and have been behind shows such as ABC’s Agent Carter, Fox’s Gotham and Constantine on NBC.
