Bonnier bags Last Kingdom director

Swedish broadcaster Bonnier has hired a local film and TV director as an executive producer in its drama unit.

Erik Leijonborg, who is directing the third season of drama The Last Kingdom for Netflix, will work on projects for Bonnier’s linear channel TV4 and streaming service C More.

The appointment is designed to boost Bonnier’s commitment to original Swedish drama, with the company adding that it would be announcing further scripted appointments shortly.

Leijonborg’s major breakthrough came with SVT miniseries Brotherhood. Since then, he has helmed TV series including Maria Wern, Farang and Thicker than Water.

Leijonborg said: “After all my years as a director, I’ve reached a point where I want to share my experience. So when TV4 got in touch, it absolutely felt like the right challenge for me.

“The idea is that I will keep a hand in as a director while going in and working with TV4, becoming a natural part of their team.”
