BBC1 renews Citizen Khan

UK pubcaster the BBC has ordered a third season of studio sitcom Citizen Khan for BBC1.

The 7×30′ series is being produced by BBC In-house Comedy. It is co-written by its creator Adil Ray, who also plays the lead role as a self-appointed community leader in the city of Birmingham. The show follows the ups and downs of Khan and his British-Asian family.

Ray, Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto will write the new season, which is being exec produced by Mark Freeland. The show recently ended its second season on BBC1 and a Christmas special is scheduled for December 20.

Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC1, said the show had “established itself as a modern mainstream comedy hit.”
