Apple uncovers investigative drama

US tech company Apple has made a straight-to-series order for a drama based on the real-life story of a pre-teen news reporter as it continues to grow its scripted content slate.

The currently untitled 10-part drama is produced by Anonymous Content and Paramount Television and executive produced by creators Dana Fox and Dara Resnik.

It is based on the story of real-life 12-year-old journalist Hilde Lysiak, who uncovered a murder in her hometown and broke the news in her self-published newspaper. The show sees her move to Brooklyn to uncover a new case involving her father.

The order continues a string of commissions from the tech firm, which most recently paired with American Hustle’s Eric Warren Singer to adapt Gregory David Roberts’ bestselling novel Shantaram for TV.

It has also ordered shows including Are You Sleeping from Reese Witherspoon’s prodco Hello Sunshine and Amazing Stories from Steven Spielberg as it taps into high-profile entertainment talent.

Apple hired a development exec from rival streamer Netflix earlier this week as it builds its global video team.
