US cablenet operator A+E Networks has cancelled its horror series Damien after just one season.

Damien, which was produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and executive produced by former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara, was a follow-up to classic horror movie The Omen.

Mazzara confirmed the show would not be returning to the A&E channel on social media platform Twitter yesterday.

The hour-long series was ordered for Lifetime in 2014 but shifted to A&E Network last year, with the original six-episode order increased to 10. It struggled with ratings from the outset.

The series followed the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the motion picture who had grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him.
