The CW orders five new dramas

UPFRONTS: US mini-network The CW has given series orders to five drama pilots for the 2018/19 schedule, including the reboot of 1990s supernatural hit Charmed.

Charmed originally ran for eight seasons on The WB

The announcement of the planned Charmed revamp came at the beginning of last year and, following a successful pilot, The CW has now picked it up for series.

Produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Propagate Content, the drama follows three sisters who discover they are witches after the death of their mother. The original series, which ran for eight seasons on The CW’s predecessor The WB, starred Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan.

The reboot is written by Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, who also exec produces alongside Jennie Urman, Brad Silberling, Ben Silverman and Carter Covington. Silberling also directs.

Elsewhere, The CW has commissioned All American from parent studios Warner Bros Television and CBS Television Studios in association with Berlanti Productions.

Exec produced by prolific showrunner Greg Berlanti, the series follows the story of a talented school football player from a rough neighbourhood who is recruited to play for the exclusive Beverly Hills High.

It is written by April Blair, who also exec produces with Sarah Schechter, Rob Hardy and Berlanti. It is produced by Robbie Rogers with Hardy directing.

Also receiving series orders are fellow The CW reboot, sci-fi series Roswell, New Mexico, produced by Warner Bros TV and CBS TV Studios in association with Amblin Television and Bender Brown Productions.

Crime thriller In The Dark and supernatural series Legacies also received series orders. Both dramas are produced by Warner Bros TV and CBS TV Studios, with Red Hour Films also producing In the Dark and My So-Called Television and Alloy Entertainment onboard Legacies.

In related news, The CW has also renewed comic book adaptation iZombie for a fifth season. The supernatural horror comedy-drama is based on a DC Comics property of the same about a medical student-turned-zombie who takes a job in a coroner’s office.
