Telemundo, Movistar link for drama

Movistar+ drama La Peste

NBCUniversal-backed Telemundo International Studios has unveiled a multi-year coproduction partnership with Spain’s Movistar+ that will see the companies produce limited series for the US and international markets.

Telemundo Network will have exclusive rights to the content in the US, while Movistar+ will have equivalent rights in Spain. Details of shows are yet to be revealed.

Movistar+ launched its original series production strategy in 2017, with plans to premiere a new drama every month. Shows to date have included Velvet Collection, Spanish Shame and The Plague (La Peste).

Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Global Studios, described his company and Movistar+ as “natural partners with the ability to raise the quality standards and continue to lead in the development and production of premium content for millions of Spanish-speaking viewers around the world.”

Movistar+ president Sergio Oslé added: “Our firm commitment to original fiction production has allowed us, during the last year, to reinforce our leadership in Spain and strengthen our position in Latin America.

“The agreement we present today will allow both companies to grow in scale, conquering new markets and combining the best capabilities for the development of quality fiction in Spanish.”
