Starz renews 50 Cent drug drama

Starz drama Power, exec produced by rapper Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, has been extended into a second season following its premiere on the US cablenet last week.

Power, which debuted with its first episode on Saturday, centers on a wealthy nightclub owner who caters to New York City’s elite while leading a double life in the city’s drugs trade.

The second 10-episode season, building on a first run of eight shows, will go into production in and around New York from September.

It’s being produced by CBS Television Studios with Jackson, Mark Canton and Randall Emmett serving as exec producers under showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh, writer and producer of The Good Wife.

Starz will retain all global distribution and home entertainment rights to the show, which was recently released in the UK via an array of VoD services.
