Starz gets into Gere’s MotherFatherSon

Richard Gere and Helen McCrory star in MotherFatherSon

Lionsgate-owned US premium cablenet Starz has bought six series and films for its summer line-up, including drama series MotherFatherSon, starring Richard Gere.

MotherFatherSon is an eight-part drama created by Tom Rob Smith (American Crime Story) and distributed by BBC Studios. Starring alongside Gere is Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders, The Queen).

The 8×60’ political and psychological thriller series centres on a mighty media empire that is threatened when its family owners turn on each other, has already been picked up around the world.

Starz has also bought documentaries The Great Mother, Kleptocrats and Out of Omaha, film A Boy. A Girl. A Dream and feature film Drunk Parents, starring Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek

The Great Mother follows Nora Sandigo, legal guardian to more than 2,000 US-citizen children of undocumented immigrants, as she battles to keep the children with their parents.

Kleptocrats tells the story of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, in which billions of dollars were embezzled from the 1MDB wealth fund by the Malaysian government.

Exec produced by hip-hop artist J Cole, Out of Omaha is a documentary about two brothers’ journey into adulthood in the racially and economically divided town of Omaha, Nebraska.

A Boy. A Girl. A Dream is a film starring Omari Hardwick (Starz original series Power), an LA club promoter, and Meagan Good (Think Like a Man) as Frida, a Mid-western visitor on the night of the 2016 presidential election.
