LA- and London-based formats company Small World IFT has agreed a development deal in the US for Chinese primetime stunt-battle format Super Combat Teams.

The show was originally produced by China’s Jiangsu Broadcasting for Jiangsu Satellite Channel and attracted more than 100 million viewers, according to Small World. It will now be developed in the US by local prodco Smart Dog Media.

Super Combat Teams combines a studio-based primetime family talent show with an app that allows viewers to guess the result of each challenge in real time, with cash prizes for those predicting the correct winners.

Craig Plestis, president and CEO at Smart Dog, said he saw “the process of guessing and getting an instant response and possible prize for being right in a show as the future for lots of reality series. This is true fun interactivity, which goes way beyond a simple vote for your favourite idol.”

Tim Crescenti, president at Small World, added that the show “is a new take on family primetime entertainment – with terrific stories and stunts based around real disciplines and all wrapped up in the most innovative digital play-along game that keeps viewers glued to each outcome and the show.”

Small World holds international distribution rights to Super Combat Teams outside Germany and China.
