Red Arrow switches on to W&B’s Blackout

Blackout – Tomorrow Is Too Late was ordered by Joyn and Sat.1

Red Arrow Studios International has picked up worldwide distribution rights to German-language thriller Blackout – Tomorrow Is Too Late, based on Marc Elsberg’s bestselling novel.

Produced by W&B Television (The Lives of Others, Dark), the 6×45’ series was commissioned by streamer Joyn and broadcster Sat.1 in Germany. It will premiere later this year on Joyn and in the second quarter of next year on Sat.1.

Blackout was directed by Oliver Rihs (Schwarze Schafe) and Lancelot von Naso (Waffenstillstand), who has also written the series alongside Kai-Uwe Hasenheit.

The executive producers are Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann and Kerstin Nommsen for W&B Television and Lena Wickert, Jana Kaun and Stefan Gärtner for Joyn and Sat.1.

The drama sees the past catch up with a former hacker when a sudden blackout plunges Europe into darkness. Red Arrow Studios International will launch the series internationally at Mipcom 2021.

Tim Gerhartz, senior VP of global sales at Red Arrow Studios International, said: “Blackout – Tomorrow Is Too Late is a timely, psychological portrait of a society in a state of emergency, that brings out the best and worst in people. A high-concept, big-budget series, it powerfully combines the thriller, drama and disaster genres with a positive message of hope and unity. We’re confident this thought-provoking drama will strike a chord with audiences internationally.”
