Rai Yoyo takes in Rainbow’s 44 Cats

44 Cats has already been acquired by the likes of Nickelodeon and Discovery Kids

Italian children’s network Rai Yoyo is preparing to air a new animated show about four kittens who make up a music band.

44 Cats is produced by Canadian outfit Bardel Entertainment, which was acquired by Italian producer and distributor Rainbow in 2015, and the latter’s animation arm Rainbow CGI, in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi.

The latter was formed last year after the merger of the Italian public broadcaster’s kids’ channels Rai Yoyo and Rai Gulp, along with its animation and kids’ drama production arms.

The show follows the daily adventures of four kittens who are part of a band who enjoy adventures while learning about tolerance, diversity and acceptance.

Luca Milano, director at Rai Ragazzi, said: “We are proud that, in the autumn, Rai Yoyo will be the first network to broadcast the series, continuing the long collaboration between Rai and Rainbow.”

The show has already been acquired in numerous territories by networks including Nickelodeon and Discovery Kids, while Super RTL has taken rights in Germany.
