Nippon’s Mother remake returns to Japan

Nippon TV in Japan has acquired rights to the South Korean remake of its own drama series Mother.

The show will air on Nippon’s Nittele Plus along with the Japanese original, which was written by Yuji Sakamoto, directed by Nobuo Mizuta and produced by Hisashi Tsugiya.

Mother depicts modern women who, as their lives unfold, decide to find a new way of living.

Nippon TV secured the remake deal with CJ ENM in Korea, with the adaptation produced by subsidiary Studio Dragon. It aired on CJ’s tvN channel in January 2018.

The show was previously remade in 2016 in Turkey, where it was known as Anne. That version has gone on to be sold into more than 30 countries.
