ZDF Enterprises to shop VIS Spanish horror reboot Stories To Stay Awake

The original Historias Para No Dormir first aired in Spain in 1966

German distributor ZDF Enterprises has acquired the rights to Spanish horror series reboot Stories To Stay Awake (Historias Para No Dormir) in all territories outside of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Latin America.

Produced by ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS), the 4×50’ anthology series has already been acquired by global SVoD service Amazon Prime Video and Spanish pubcaster RTVE and will soon debut on ViacomCBS streamer Paramount+ in several countries.

The series, which was produced in partnership with the production companies Isla Audiovisual and Prointel and in collaboration with ZDF Enterprises, reboots the 1960s horror format from Chicho Ibáñez Serrador and will premiere on November 5 on Amazon Prime Video in Spain.

Stories To Stay Awake will comprise episodes titled The Joke, Freddy, The Doppelganger and Asphalt. Freddy shares its name with the title of an episode from the original show’s third season.

The original series broadcast in Spain from 1966 to 1968, with a final third season in 1982. It was made by Televisión Española and broadcast on its Primera Cadena channel. A reboot was also attempted around 2000 with a special episode but never got off the ground.

VIS handles sales in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Latin America.
