Woodcut makes popular appointment

UK indie Woodcut Media has appointed a former Avalon executive to a newly created position working across popular factual programming.

Matthew Gordon

Matthew Gordon becomes executive producer for the genre at Woodcut and starts immediately, reporting to CEO Kate Beal and working closely with creative director Derren Lawford.

Prior to joining Woodcut, Gordon spent three years at Avalon as head of features and daytime, developing, pitching and producing formats and series for UK and US broadcasters.

He has also had stints at Avalon-owned Flame Television and Liberty Bell, with credits on BBC show Heir Hunters and The Nightmare Neighbour Next Door for Channel 5.

Beal said Gordon had “established long-running relationships with commissioners and built an array of skills that we are confident will contribute substantially to the Woodcut team.”

Gordon added: “As well as popular factual, there seems to be an ever-increasing global demand for crime programming. I very much look forward to working with Kate and Woodcut and creating factual shows that will captivate viewers both in the UK and abroad.”

Woodcut is part of UK group Bob & Co and has produced an array of series including Jo Frost on Killer Kids, World’s Most Evil Killers and The Krays: The Prison Years in the UK.
