Univision extends Cowell’s band

US Hispanic broadcaster Univision Communications has extended Simon Cowell-backed music and multimedia competition show La Banda into a second season.

The series was developed by Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Haim Saban’s Saban Brands, and coproduced with FremantleMedia Latin America.

The second run will see contestants from the US and Puerto Rico competing to become part of an “ultimate Latina girl supergroup.”

La Banda 2 will continue in its Sunday night primetime position on the Univision Network in 2016. Cowell, Kelly Belldegrun and Nigel Hall will executive produce for Syco, along with Univision’s Cisco Suarez.
