UniMás acquires Sierra/Engine series

UniMás, the US Spanish-language broadcast network owned by Univision Communications, has acquired two series from US producer-distributor Sierra/Engine Television.

The deal gives UniMás exclusive rights to Mexican drama Niño Santo and the action adventure SAF3 (previously known as Rescue 3). Originally called TeleFutura but rebranded last year, UniMás was launched in 2002 as a sister network to Univision’s main Spanish-language US service.

Niño Santo is about a team of young doctors sent to vaccinate people in a remote village who cross paths with a cult-like leader who miraculously cures the sick.

The series, a coproduction between Canal 11 Mexico and Canana (the company run by Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Julian Levin and Pablo Cruz), stars Karla Souza and is executive produced by Mauricio Katz and Pedro Peirano.

Filmed in South Africa, SAF3 is about Southern California’s elite rescue task force from the Malibu Fire Department.

Created by Gregory Bonmann (one of the creators of Baywatch), the first-run syndicated series is produced by Tower 18 Productions, Emmett/Furla and Sierra/Engine Entertainment Television. It has been sold in over 50 countries and is currently airing in the US on Tribune Broadcasting stations, with Trifecta distributing.
