Elementary will join Vegas, Emily Owens MD and Beauty and the Beast on TV2 as part of the network’s output deal with CBS Studios International (CBSSI).

The channel also shares with rival Nordic broadcaster SBS an output deal with Warner Bros International Television Distribution, though the placing of individual titles has yet to be decided.

John Ranelagh, head of acquisitions at TV2, told C21 it was becoming increasingly difficult to find US drama that can appeal to a mainstream, family audience.

“Drama this year is mirroring the fragmentation of the TV audience – it’s harder and harder to find mainstream family shows as the commissioning networks try to find particular audiences,” he said.

“The quality of production has never been higher. Graphics are simply superb, and are adding another imaginative dimension to shows.”

C21 previously reported that SBS Broadcasting in the Netherlands has renewed its multi-year output deal with CBSSI.

Furthermore, Canada’s Shaw Media has picked up Vegas and Chicago Fire, sold by NBCUniversal International TV Distribution. The broadcaster has already acquired Sony Pictures Television dramas Last Resort and Made in Jersey, sitcom Save Me and reality series The Job.

A deal has also been secured to take HBO’s The Newsroom to Scandinavia, where it will air on pay-TV channel Canal+.
