Sundance Now to show UK’s Call My Agent

Call My Agent is due to launch next year

AMC-owned US streamer Sundance Now has sealed the exclusive US premiere rights to the UK remake of hit French comedy series Call My Agent.

The series, produced by Canada’s Bron Studios, will be made available on the platform shortly after its world premiere in 2022.

Executive produced by W1A creator John Morton, it will feature cameos from Dominic West, Kelly MacDonald and Helena Bonham Carter. The regular cast includes Rebecca Humphries, Tim McInnerny and Jack Davenport.

The UK version was commissioned by Amazon Prime Video and will have a similar premise to the original – a talent agency’s staff faces a constant battle to keep hold of its clients after its founder unexpectedly dies. With the setting shifting from Paris to London, topics like the class divide in the city are expected to be covered.

Created by Fanny Herrero, the French original (locally titled Dix Pour Cent) is in its fourth season on public broadcaster France 2. The award-winning show is one of the most popular in France and has gained an international following since being picked up by Netflix.

Exec producing the UK version are David Davoli, Samantha Thomas, Steven Thibault and Aaron L Gilbert for Bron Studios; Christian Baute, Frank Calderon and Laurence Lenica for the UK’s Headline Pictures; and David Tanner from Andrew Eaton’s Turbine Studios.

Those behind the original show are also on board, with Mother Productions’ Aurélien Larger and Harold Valentin and Mon Voisin Productions’ Dominique Besnehard among the exec producers. Bron Studios is handling financing and global distribution.

David Davoli, president of television for Bron Studios, said: “This sale to Sundance Now in the US builds on Bron’s already strong relationship with AMC Networks and continues Bron television’s global mandate to identify, finance and produce European/UK IP that can be exploited in the US and beyond.

“We look forward to John Morton’s adaptation of this beloved series becoming a part of the high-quality body of work that Sundance is associated with, and entertaining audiences for years to come.”
