Streamer Paramount+ takes up The Challenge for a second season

ViacomCBS-owned SVoD platform Paramount+ has greenlit its entertainment format The Challenge: All Stars for a second season beginning on November 11.

The 10-episode series is a spin off from reality show The Challenge, which has aired on US reality network MTV since 1998. The Challenge is itself a spin off from MTV shows The Real World and Road Rules.

This season of All Stars will feature 24 of the best competitors from the past 23 years of the show, with TJ Lavin returning to host. The competitors will have to overcome a range of obstacles and physical challenges to win a US$500,000 prize.

The show was created for MTV by US prodco Bunim/Murray, with president Julie Pizzi, Justin Booth and Mark Long serving as executive producers. Bunim/Murray also created the show’s predecessors Road Rules and The Real World, as well as other formats Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Battlebots.

Diego Amson and Chris Ray are co-executive producers, with Katie Gallagher and Kristen Bihr supervising producers, and Jared March is supervising producer for MTV. ViacomCBS’s Dan Caster and Leanne Mucci are also executive producers.

Another spin-off from the original format, The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies, is currently airing on MTV. The format is similar but challenges are added to encourage mistrust and gameplaying among the contestants.

Paramount+’s other entertainment formats include Ru Paul’s Drag Race: All Stars, Behind The Music and Real World Homecoming: New York.
