Fremantle’s UK-based podcast label Storyglass has appointed former Audible exec Steve Carsey as MD.

Carsey will lead Storyglass in its development, production and distribution of podcasts for a global audience and will report to chairman Bob McCourt.

He joins Storyglass after six years at Audible, where he held the role of senior director for international English (originals) and greenlit more than 200 podcasts and original audio series, including Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, Aliens: Out of The Shadows, The Beautiful Brain, In Search of Black History with Bonnie Greer and From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast.

Prior to that, Carsey worked at a number of senior roles across the industry including chief creative officer at ITN Productions, director of programmes at Banijay-owned Initial and deputy CEO of Steadfast Television.

Storyglass was launched as a scripted podcast division of Fremantle’s global drama department in 2018. Led by creative director Robert Delamere, it was behind series including Baby It’s Cold Outside, Max & Ivan: Fugitives and The Harrowing.

The company was relaunched in June 2020, bringing together the podcast expertise of Bertelsmann’s UK content businesses (Fremantle, Penguin Random House UK, BMG and DK), drawing on their production resources, access to talent and editorial knowledge across multiple genres.

Delamere’s future with the company had not been clarified at press time.
