Story of Us primed for Europe

Nutopia factual format The Story of Us is to get a European makeover in association with German distributor ZDF Enterprises.

ZDF Enterprises will launch Europe – The Story of Us at the Impact Media Summit in Turin later this month. The series is being produced by Nutopia and ZDF will distribute it internationally.

The two companies say they are still open to international coproduction partners coming on board the project.

Nutopia first launched the format with 12-part America: The Story of Us for A+E Networks’ History channel in the US. It was the first commission for Jane Root, formerly controller of BBC2 and president of the Discovery Channel, after she moved into independent production in 2009.

Nutopia subsequently developed Mankind: The Story of All of Us for History but has more recently been working on the show as a format for international sales. Australia’s Network Seven greenlit a local version in October last year and ZDF Enterprises is now following suit.

The show uses CGI, interviews and dramatic re-enactments to tell the history of a country or continent.
