StarzPlay, HBO take to The Stand

The Stand is based on a novel by Stephen King

Broadcasters and platforms in more than 100 markets, including Lionsgate-owned streamer StarzPlay and cablenet HBO, have acquired forthcoming drama series The Stand from ViacomCBS Global Distribution.

The Stand is a nine-episode limited event series based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, set in an apocalyptic world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil.

Starring Whoopi Goldberg and Alexander Skarsgård, the series is produced by CBS Studios and will launch on CBS All Access in the US next week.

StarzPlay has bought The Stand for its service in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latin America, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, while HBO has picked it up for its channels in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Portugal.

The series has also been acquired by M-Net in Africa, Cosmote TV in Greece, Síminn in Iceland, Korea’s Wavve and Tcast, Amediateka in Russia, Yes in Israel and India’s Voot Select, Viacom18’s premium streaming service.
