Schwartz takes Misfits to US

US prodco Fake Empire Productions is developing a stateside version of Bafta-winning UK drama Misfits, after agreeing a development deal with London’s Clerkenwell Films.

Fake Empire chief Josh Schwartz will co-write the pilot with the show’s creator Howard Overman before shopping it to US networks. If it gets a green light, Schwartz and Overman will exec-produce, alongside Clerkenwell’s chief executive Murray Ferguson and head of drama Petra Fried.

The original series, which begins its third season on UK diginet E4 later this month, is distributed by BBC Worldwide and is available in the US on VoD site Hulu. It follows a group of 20-something delinquents who develop super powers.

Housed at Warner Bros, Fake Empire’s other shows include Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie on The CW and Chuck on NBC. Before setting up Fake Empire with Stephanie Savage last year, Schwartz created teen hit The OC.
