London-based factual indie Rogan Productions has established a base in Glasgow, led by former BBC executive Mark Hedgecoe.

Rogan Scotland has already secured its first commission, Frida (working title), a three-part documentary series for the BBC that explores the personal and political life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her relationship with Diego Rivera.

Hedgecoe will exec produce with Rogan Productions’ creative director James Rogan, with Louise Lockwood directing.

In his new role, Hedgecoe is spearheading Rogan Scotland’s launch and overseeing all production and development from Glasgow. The exec most recently led Pacific Quay Productions for BBC Studios in Glasgow, before which he ran the BBC’s Arts production team across the UK and was deputy head of BBC Science production.

Hedgecoe has worked in factual programming for more than 25 years, with his credits including film The Challenger, science series Operation Iceberg and film The Girl Who Talked to Dolphins.

Rogan said: “Our very first series, The Craftsmen’s Dinner, was made in Scotland and it has long been part of the company growth strategy to establish a base there. Opening in Glasgow is a crucial milestone in our development and our ability to deliver a wide range of films that reflect our passion for strong perspective, diversity and powerful storytelling.”
