Rakuten kicks off women’s football doc

Manchester City’s Lucy Bronze in Champions

Spanish VoD platform Rakuten TV has commissioned a documentary series about women’s football that will spotlight leading players across Europe.

Champions will feature Lucy Bronze of Manchester City, plus Wendie Renard (Lyon), Alexia Putellas (Barcelona), Barbara Bonansea (Juventus), Julia Simic (Milán) and Stina Blackstenius (Montpellier).

The six-parter is produced by sports doc specialist El Cañonazo Transmedia in association with Rakuten TV. Elena Carrascal directs, with Sonia Jaque writing and Sylvia Cabanas as production manager.

The series will be shown on documentary strand Rakuten Stories and will be available later in the autumn.
