Paper Entertainment teams with Killing Eve writer Isis Davis to develop first series

London-based Paper Entertainment, the prodco launched by former Cineflix exec Julien Theroux earlier this year, is developing its first series – a drama written by Killing Eve writer Isis Davis.

The drama, Your Eyes, is about family, race and identity, told from the experience of an unconventionally diverse modern family. It follows a staunch black rights activist and her Rastafarian husband who, after waiting on the adoption list for years, are presented with a very white, blue-eyed baby.

Sixteen years later, the couple have three teenagers – their adopted white son and black biological twins – who they have raised ‘colour-blind’ in their multicultural neighbourhood in order to shield them from the realities of systematic racism and the truth behind their own past prejudices.

But when the father gets a new high-profile job and the family moves to an affluent, predominately white town, they must fight to stay together in a place trying to tear them apart.

Your Eyes is based on the French feature film and series Il a déjà tes yeux, created by Lucien Jean-Baptiste, Sébastien Mounier and Marie-Françoise Colombani. The format deal was secured with Nolita Cinema, Nolita TV, Ango Productions and TF1 Studio.

“We are thrilled to be working on Your Eyes – a series which addresses essential conversations surrounding the major issue of systemic racism. Isis is the absolute perfect voice for the series. She brings her own unique, personal background and life experience to explore the themes of racial identity, belonging, class and location,” Leroux said.
