NPO sinks teeth into Nippon TV cake format

NPO1’s Showcolade sees celebs guess whether objects are made of chocolate

Dutch pubcaster NPO has ordered a local version of a Japanese culinary competition format in which celebrities guess whether objects are real or made from cake.

Sokkuri Sweets was first commissioned by Nippon TV in Japan, while the Dutch adaptation, titled Showcolade, is set to air on NPO1 in primetime on Sunday.

Showcolade is being produced by Warner Bros International Television Production-owned Dutch prodco BlazHoffski and will see chocolatiers produce objects out of chocolate for contestants to judge if they are real or sweets.

In the final episode, the winning chocolatier is decided by how many of their works are not found out as ‘fake’ throughout the series.

Mikiko Nishiyama, MD of international business development for Nippon TV, said: “I have no doubt that Showcolade will have great success in the Netherlands and provide an entertaining treat to viewers with its sweet surprises and laughter as the chocolatiers make their country proud on this global stage.”
