Nine, SVT, DirecTV take Diana doc

Diana: The Day the World Cried

Nine Network in Australia, Sweden’s SVT and DirecTV in Latin America are among the broadcasters to have picked up a special to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Diana: The Day the World Cried (1×60’) is from UK prodco Finestripe Productions and retells the story of the princess with narration from Hollywood star Kate Winslet.

Produced for ITV in the UK and Smithsonian Channel in the US, the show has also been bought by NRK in Norway, Sky in New Zealand, Manoto in Iran and Channel 8 in Israel. Cineflix Rights handles global sales.

The UK distributor has also sold Finestripe’s business doc Inside Dior (2×60’) to RTL Living (Germany), Foxtel (Australia), Sky New Zealand, Planete+ (France), Movistar+ (Spain), Channel 8, Manoto, and Fox in India).

Additionally, Finestripe’s 1×60′ special Whizz Kids: On the Fast Track to F1, which delves into the world of young racing drivers, has been picked by RTS (Switzerland) and PCCW (Hong Kong).

Finally, RTÉ in Ireland has picked up Finestripe documentaries The Day Day Kennedy Died (1×60’) and The Day Hitler Died (1×60’).

Chris Bonney, CEO of rights at Cineflix Media, said his company had experienced “strong international demand” for “high-calibre documentaries” over recent months.
