Netflix greenlights 2D animated supernatural series, renews Night Agent

Jentry Chau vs The Underworld from animation studio Titmouse

Netflix has ordered a 2D animated series from first-time showrunner Echo Wu and exec producers Ali Wong (Beef) and Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key).

Jentry Chau vs The Underworld is a supernatural action project following a Chinese-American teenager living in a small Texan town who finds out a demon king is hunting her for the supernatural powers she’s been working her whole life to repress.

Created by Wu, who also exec produces, the show’s voice cast includes Wong, Bowen Yang, Lori Tan Chinn, Lucy Liu, Jimmy O Yang, Sheng Wang and Woosung Kim.

US-based animation company Titmouse is the studio on the project, with Chris Prynoski (The Legend of Vox Machina), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax), Antonio Canobbio (Arlo the Alligator Boy) and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth) also serving as executive producers.

Elsewhere, the streaming giant renewed its action-thriller series The Night Agent for a 10-part second season, less than a week after it premiered.

The show, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television, was Netflix’s most-watched English-language TV show this week, posting 168.7 million hours viewed.

Created by showrunner Shawn Ryan, The Night Agent follows a low-level FBI agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings, until he is propelled into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy. It is based on the novel by Matthew Quirk.
