Netflix grabs Gomez drama

Selena Gomez will exec produce 13 Reasons Why

US streamer Netflix has made a straight-to-series order for a show to be exec produced by singer and actor Selena Gomez.

13 Reasons Why is being produced by US prodco Anonymous Content and Paramount TV, according to numerous US trade reports. It’s based on a novel by Jay Asher that explores why a high-school student commits suicide.

The TV show has been created by Brian Yorkey and will be exec produced by Gomez (In Dubious Battle) alongside Joy Gorman Wettels, Michael Sugar and Steve Golin, among others.

It’s the second Netflix order for Anonymous, which is also producing The OA for the streaming giant.
