Produced by NENT Group and Iceland’s Sagafilm, Sisterhood follows a police detective who, dissatisfied with the original investigation into the disappearance of a young girl 25 years earlier, decides to continue investigating herself.

During her investigation, she is led to an unlikely trio of successful and respectable women who have long lived in the shadow of a terrible crime and will go to any length to stop it coming to light.

The six-part series stars Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir (George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky), Jóhanna Friðrika Sæmundsdóttir (Happily Never After), Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir (Trapped) and Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir (Woman at War). It will premiere on Viaplay next year.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT group chief content officer, said: “The new wave of Nordic noir often reaches beyond ‘whodunnit?’ to ask ‘why?’ Like our smash hit Those Who Kill, Sisterhood unfolds from the perpetrators’ perspective, creating an unsettling and compelling experience.

“High-quality local storytelling is key to our international expansion, and this unique show will be a milestone in establishing Viaplay’s position among Icelandic streaming audiences.”
