NENT asks About Monica for Viaplay

Nordic Entertainment (NENT) Group has commissioned a Danish drama called What About Monica as the next original series for its streaming platform Viaplay.

Launched as a Viaplay Original and filmed in Denmark, the coming-of-age series is produced by Nimbus Film. It will debut later this year, and tells the story of a teenage girl investigating the sexual assault of one of her friends.

What About Monica stars Filippa Coster-Waldau and Maja Thiele and is written by Julie Budtz Sørensen, based on her podcast Det met Liv. Nils Holst-Jensen is the director.

Filippa Wallestam, exec VP and chief content officer of NENT Group, said: “What about Monica is a touching portrait of the crucial teenage years, where social life dominates everything. I am really passionate about portraying the challenges of growing up today and I believe this unique story and talented creative team has all the potential to attract our young-adult audience and beyond.”

Viaplay has launched a variety of YA-targeted content for 2021, including originals Thunder in my Heart, Try Hard, Dystopia and Delete Me.
