Long-running Canadian comedy Workin Moms to end with seventh season

Catherine Reitman as Kate Foster in Workin’ Mums

Long-running half-hour Canadian comedy Workin’ Moms is to end after its seventh season.

The show, produced for Canadian pubcaster CBC and Netflix, has just started production on 13 new episodes, which will serve as the conclusion to the story about a group of women juggling their careers, motherhood and love.

Produced by Toronto-based Wolf + Rabbit Entertainment, the final instalment will premiere on CBC and CBC Gem early next year. Outside of Canada, season seven will launch on Netflix.

“But like any story, there must be an ending. And so, it is with love and gratitude that I’m announcing season seven as our final season,” said creator, executive producer and star Catherine Reitman (Black-ish, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

“The biggest thank you to our partners, CBC and Netflix, for getting behind a show that points a flashlight into the darkest corners of motherhood.”

Sally Catto, CBC’s GM of entertainment, factual and sports, added: “It has been a delight and an honour to partner with Catherine – an immeasurable talent, in front of and behind the camera – Philip, and the incredibly talented Workin’ Moms team. This is a series that will undoubtedly continue to connect with audiences for years to come.

“While it will be bittersweet to say goodbye to these unforgettable characters, we are excited for audiences to watch this brilliant final season.”

Since premiering in early 2017, Workin’ Moms has become a staple of CBC’s comedy line-up and a sizeable international hit for Netflix. In addition to being nominated for multiple Canadian Screen Awards, the show was also nominated for two International Emmy Awards.

Starring alongside Reitman in the final series are Dani Kind, Jessalyn Wanlim, Philip Sternberg, Ryan Belleville, Sarah McVie, Sadie Munroe, Peter Keleghan, Nikki Duval and Enuka Okuma.

In addition to Reitman, exec producers on the series are Sternberg, Jonathan A Walker, Tina Horwitz and Joe Sorge.

Showrunners on the upcoming season are Jessie Gabe (Mr D, Being Erica) and Karen Kicak (Mary Kills People, Detention Adventure). Both Gabe and Kicak are also executive producing, with Lisa Benedetto serving as co-executive producer and Daniel Gold as supervising producer.

The CBC original series is made with the financial contribution of the Canada Media Fund and Netflix. Internationally the show is distributed by Coldsprings Media and represented by Horwitz and her company Vanguarde Artists Management.
